CapCut SRT export not working: causes and fixes

Start by identifying the failing workflow

If you are still inside CapCut and the SRT option is missing or the export fails, you are troubleshooting CapCut's native feature. If you selected a folder in this website and received a draft or timeline message, you are troubleshooting draft extraction. The two workflows have different requirements, so mixing their fixes wastes time.

Before either workflow, save the project and review the captions on the timeline. A subtitle file cannot contain timing that was never stored, and a draft extractor cannot recover caption segments from an unrelated JSON file.

Fix project folder and draft detection errors

   Use the Path from CapCut Details

   Open the project itself, check Details, and copy its Path. Do not guess from a folder with a similar project name.

   Select one project, not the project library

   The correct directory directly contains draft_content.json or draft_info.json. Selecting the parent library can trigger a many-files browser warning.

   Save the project again

   If the expected JSON file is absent or old, return to CapCut, make a harmless edit, save, and check the Path again.

   Check that the JSON belongs to CapCut

   Renaming an unrelated JSON file does not create a valid draft. The parser needs CapCut materials and timeline tracks.

Fix text found without matching timeline segments

A draft may contain text materials but no usable link between those materials and timed segments. This can happen with an incomplete copy, a different draft structure, or text elements that are not actual timeline captions. Choose the complete folder rather than a single file copied out of context.

Also confirm that the captions appear on the project timeline and have durations. Decorative titles and manually placed text may not behave like recognized captions. The tool deliberately avoids inventing timecodes when it cannot establish a real segment match.

• Empty preview: no exportable timed captions were parsed.
• Text but no segments: the draft contains words without reliable timeline links.
• Some captions missing: review other text tracks and save the latest project state.

Fix CapCut's native Caption Export

CapCut's official guidance lists caption source, export settings, file encoding or path issues, and software version limitations as common causes. Confirm that Caption Export is selected rather than only Video Export, and choose SRT or TXT. If labels or options differ, update the app because availability changes across versions and regions.

If a saved file opens with broken characters, treat that as an encoding issue rather than deleting punctuation. Open or import the file as UTF-8. For path-related failures, try a short destination path and a simple file name, then move the successfully exported file afterward.
